We didn't have an internet connection in our hotel room last night but a lot has happened! After seemingly endless driving we finally made it out of Texas and into New Mexico. Our first stop was the White Sands National Monument where we played on the dunes until we got kicked out because of a missile test... but as we were leaving the freezer at the gift shop broke and they gave the three of us all of the free ice cream we could eat. Only in America can you get kicked out of a national park because of weapons testing and be given a free "Banana Fudge Bombsicle" on your way out.
From there we drove to Tombstone, Arizona, site of the Gunfight at the OK Coral with Wyatt Earp. Unfortunately we found that it is still a largely lawless place, so Paddy decided to institute her own form of 'justice.'

From Tombstone we drove to Tucson where we stayed at the edge of the Saguaro National Park. Can you find me among the cacti?

Today we drove from Arizona to San Diego, and along the way we saw another staple of the American Southwest, illegal immigrants crossing the border! About a mile after we crossed into California, we saw a group of seven people camouflaged with sand-colored burlap sacks run across the Mexican border and hide in the brush along I-8.
We finally arrived at Ariel's aunt and uncle's house in San Diego this evening and are working on getting Paddy acclimated to her foster home for the next month--I think Paddy will have a great time with Evan and Renee, and we are so grateful to them for taking care of Pupster!
